NEW DATE!
Saturday April 15, 2023
9:00am - 12:00pm
FRWA Frey Property
Puddletown Road New Hartford, CT
Across the river from Satan's Kingdom Parking Area
The Farmington Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited is again planning a March project to remove invasive species on the Farmington River Watershed Association’s Frey Property. This parcel is located on the East bank of the Farmington River directly across from the Satan’s Kingdom parking lot in New Hartford.
Volunteers will spend 2 to 3 hours outdoors working along a section of the river to cut bittersweet vines and other invasive plants. Bittersweet vine foliage can weigh heavily on treetops, obstruct healthy tree growth and produce pernicious orange seeds so attractive to the birds.
Temperatures should be seasonal in March but weather is uncertain, so we are targeting Saturday, March 25th for our first conservation project of 2023. Please check our website at www.fvtu.org, Facebook (Farmington Valley Trout Unlimited) or Instagram (fvtu_129) in case of weather uncertainty and plan to wear appropriate clothing.
Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the parking area on Puddletown Road (Farmington River Turnpike) in New Hartford, just upstream of Frey Road and across the river from the Satan’s Kingdom parking lot. Puddletown Road is a quick left off of Breezy Hill Road, approximately ¼ mile east of the Satan’s Kingdom bridge on Rt. 44.
Volunteers should wear work clothes, work boots and heavy gloves. Don’t forget tick protection. Please bring a lopper and pruning shears or a small bow saw. Chain saws for thick vines may be useful. Coffee and donuts will be available early, and hot dogs for lunch.
Please RSVP by calling 860-678-7245 or 347-491-9301 (or by emailing williamcase@comcast.net or seafarer0520@att.net).
Please join us for a great morning outdoors performing conservation work that everyone who enjoys walking along or fishing this section of the river will appreciate.
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing
2023 Online Auction Fund Raiser
March 31, 2023 – April 8, 2023
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (PHW) is dedicated to the physical, emotional, and social rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings.
FVTU has been a longtime supporter of PHW with many FVTU members volunteering their time and expertise to this worthwhile cause since the Newington CT program was established by FVTU members in 2012. In addition, FVTU has provided direct financial support which has allowed the program to expand its fly fishing experiences for the veteran participants.
In order to expand the number of quality fly-fishing experiences (both day and overnight fly-fishing outings), the Newington program will be conducting its first online auction from March 31 – April 8, 2023. They will be auctioning a wide range of fly-fishing rod/reel packages, rods custom built by veteran participants, fly tying equipment/accessories, float trip outing, non-fishing items and more. All proceeds raised will go directly to providing additional day and overnight outings for veteran participants that are part of the Newington program.
FVTU asks that our members consider supporting this auction.
The auction will start at 8:00 am EST on Friday, March 31, 2023 and will close at 11:59pm EST on Saturday, April 8, 2023 and can be accessed at the following Network for Good site
