The event, coinciding with Earth Day and Arbor Day, is scheduled for Saturday, April 30th on approximately 13 acres of riverfront property (formally Frey) recently acquired by the Farmington River Watershed Association. Property is located on the north side of Rt. 44 in New Hartford on the Farmington River Turnpike (Puddletown Road on Google Maps) immediately off of Breezy Hill Road. Plantings to combat stream erosion, protect and enhance trout habitat and eventually improve air quality. We will be planting over 40 trees of various species. Volunteers should dress appropriately and bring gloves, work footwear, insect repellant, rain gear and head gear. Please bring shovels, spades, and buckets to water the trees. Make this a family event!
And if improving the habitat along the river wasn't enough to entice you to join us, John D.'s famous grilled Hotdogs and drinks will be provided for all the volunteers!
We will also be highlighting plans for an exciting possible future project in this area that will include more buffer plantings and a thermal refuge.
You're also welcome to fish after the days events.
