Today’s blog was written by FVTU Board member Alicea Charamut honoring our friend Jim Carroll who passed away recently.

There are certain people who bring a smile to your face every time they cross your path. For me, Jim Carroll was one of those people. Jim was a long-time member of FVTU and generously supported our banquets by donating trips to Limestone Trout Club. But Jim’s passion was Atlantic Salmon with a focus on restoration and education through the Salmon in Schools program. He served on the board of the Connecticut River Salmon Association and was an extremely active member of the Fisheries Advisory Council.  He was also a strong, crucial advocate for maintaining funding for the hatcheries. Kensington Hatchery, in particular, as it was responsible for the production of eggs for Salmon in Schools and kept the tradition of fishing for salmon alive in Connecticut after restorations efforts were abandoned.

As notable as he was as an advocate for fisheries issues and education, he will also be remembered for being a wonderful person and a perfect gentleman. He will be missed and remembered fondly by many. If you would like to make a donation in Jim’s honor, it was his wish for donations to be made to the Connecticut River Salmon Association (to donate contact Tom Chrosniak) or the Carroll Family Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving that will support environmental education in Grades K-12 and conservation of the environment.

We, here at FVTU extend our deepest condolences to Jim’s family.
