Call For Volunteers: 2021 Bittersweet Beat Back on March 13th

The Farmington Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited (FVTU) is currently seeking volunteers to join our March conservation project to cut Oriental Bittersweet vines attached to trees along the trail from Unionville to Collinsville. The 2021 Bittersweet Beat Back will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 13th with Saturday, March 20th as a rain date.

Volunteers will spend 2 to 3 hours outdoors working along a section of the trail to cut vines and thereby eliminate vine foliage which can weigh heavily on treetops and obstruct healthy tree growth. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the River Trail Parking Area located at 350 Collinsville Road in Unionville, and teams will then be dispatched to relevant sections of the trail.

Volunteers should wear work clothes, work boots and heavy gloves, and bring the tools needed to cut the vines, such as a small bow saw, a lopper, and pruning shears. Please check our website at www.fvtu.org in case of weather uncertainty.

In order to create balanced teams, please sign up by visiting this link, or by calling 860-678-7245 or 860-539-7200. Join us for a great morning outdoors performing conservation work that everyone who enjoys the trail can see and appreciate.
